Apply a water-resistant sealant
Protect against any type of damage with a high-grade sealant. This will lengthen the life of your driveway and ensure that cracks don’t appear in the colder months. You only need to do this every couple of years to ensure that you have that added protection for the winter.
Use salt
If you do get some icy conditions, rock salt is your friend. A common mistake is to go over the top with salt under the assumption that it will speed up the melting. Sadly, that isn’t the case. Use only a handful of rock salt for every square metre. If you are using Calcium Chloride, a handful can treat 3 square metres.
Look out for cracks
Although there’s rarely snowfall, rain is likely so look out for cracks! Cracks let water seep in, which can cause further splits. Be vigilant and fix cracks when they appear. If you don’t know how to do it, Concept Concrete will be glad to help.
Don’t bother with ashes and kitty litter
Neither does a good job at adding traction or clearing ice. If traction is needed, mix sand with salt and sprinkle it on the driveway.
